New Manga Impression: A Story About Treating a Female Knight Who Has Never Been Treated as a Woman

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

Leo is every bit the ideal knight, strong, courageous and not the least bit ladylike. Never before has she been treated as a woman… that is until magician Fooly comes up to her one day and declares his love for her. Thus, begins the tale of romance between a female knight who has never been treated as a woman and a magician who loves her, muscles and all.

The Good

While a comedy and short in pages, the nice thing about the series is that it paces itself and the characters. The romance is sweet and the dynamic between the Leo and Fooly is not too overplayed. In terms of design, Leo makes for a striking and unconventional character given that this writer has almost never seen facial scars on a female lead. That and the way that she contrasts with Fooly and his simple design just adds to it.

Then there is the portrayal of the characters as the relationship between the two develops and when Leo agrees to Fooly’s courtship. For one thing, the way that Leo gets easily flustered and angered at Fooly at first before slowly opening up to him and basically showing a silent girly side to her when alone. Just the contrast and dynamics that’s been showed in the series makes for a rather enjoyable read.

The Bad

The only real issue to be found with the series so far is in Fooley’s character portrayal. Overall, he’s not a bad character, but simply put, he needs just a tad more depth given to him and his love for Leo. Given the tone of the series however, outside of the one action scene, this is clearly a more comedy romance rather than romantic comedy, meaning, one should expect the romance to be on the background next to the comedy of Leo being flustered and Fooly fawning over her abs.

Conclusion

So far, the series brings a fun and cute concept with characters to match. The female lead has some great character work done for her but with Fooly, just a little more on his character outside of his love for Leo would have been nice. Other than that one note though, the series doesn’t have any notable issues as a comedy romance with a shounen theme to it. Basically, if you’re looking for a nice comedy romance with unconventional characters, this is one to read.
