Studio Ghibli Co-Founder Isao Takahata Passes Away

The well-acclaimed anime director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli Isao Takahata has passed away at the age of 82 in a Tokyo hospital on Thursday. Various Japanese news sources said that Takahata’s health has been deteriorating since last summer.

Both he and Hayao Miyazaki founded Studio Ghibli. Since then, he created and directed the studio’s anime films like Only Yesterday, My Neighbors the Yamadas, and Pom Poko. He is also notable for the creation of the anime film Grave of the Fireflies.

Takahata’s last film he did as a director was The Tale of Princess Kaguya which premiered in 2013.

Rest in Peace, Sir. The anime industry will never forget you and your legacy will live on through your anime films.
