A 5th Season is Set for 2019 for "Symphogear" in Japan

“Symphogear” has officially revealed a 5th season on its website and Twitter and its set for April 2019.

Not much details have been revealed for the new season other than that its Japanese broadcast date and a new visual. It was in October 2017 that the fourth season of the franchise, “Symphogear Axis” reached its end with a total of 13 episodes. Currently the first to third season of the series is being streamed by Crunchyroll.

“Symphogear” first came out in December 2011 as a manga series with Noriyasu Agematsu and Akifumi Kaneko as the writers and Dan Yoshii as the the illustrator. The manga was three volumes long and had fifteen chapters before it reached its end in March 2013.

It was in January 2012 that an anime adaptation under the production of Satelight was released. The series  ran for a total of 13 episodes before ending in March 2012. Followed after was a second season which made its debut in June 2013. It was titled “Senki Zesshou Symphogear G” or simply “Symhogear G” and also ended with 13 episodes in September 2013.

With the third season which was titled “Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX”/”Symphogear GX”, it made its debut in July 2015 and ended in September 2015 with 13 episodes. As for the fourth season, it was released in July 2017.

Katsumi Ono, who is known to have worked on the stroyboard of the first “Yu-Gi-Oh” series, directed all but the first season of the seasons. The director for the first season was Tatsufumi Itou, the director behind the third season of the “Shugo Chara” series, “Shugo Chara Party!”
Akifumi Kaneko however, worked on writing of all the seasons of the series.

The story for the series tells of Tsubasa Kazanari and Kanade Amō, two idols collectively known as Zwei Wing. With an armor that uses the power of music they battle against an alien race known as Noise. When Kanade makes the decision to sacrifice herself to save a girl named Hibiki Tachibana she ends up leaving a piece of her Symphogear relic, Gungnir, embedded in her chest.

Two years after the event, Hibiki ends up awakening the power within her and ends up gaining the same Symphogear armor that Kanade had. Now Hibiki along her fellow Symphogear wielders must fight to protect the innocent and defeat those who would use the Noise for evil.
