A Real Comedy Romance: Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai shite Ita

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

This the story of an evil organization about to take over the world and one of the brains taking charge of it is a man named Miller. One day, a magical girl named Byakuya Mimori decides to make a stand against the organization and when Miller meets her, rather than wanting to destroy her, he falls in love at first sight with her.

The Good

From the story to the characters and the overall way that the comedy was done in the series, there was so much to enjoy about the series. What really made the series work is the way that the series worked its main characters and twisted them from their usual image and built their chemistry. The overreaction of the officer and the solemn innocence of Mimori just ties the entire series together.

And the way that the relationship built between Miller and Byakuya is a high plus for the series given how unconventional it is and sweet their moments are. The main leads are not the only interesting characters to enjoy with the series though; there are different side characters that have their own interesting stories to them. One example are the “angels” who create the magical girls of the series. At first, you would think that they were just some nonsensical characters to add to the comedy but apparently, there is some depth to them after all and the manga apparently decided to surprise the reader by giving them human forms.

The Bad

The first thing that can be said against the series is that the series is that the plot is rather all over the place and the ending is rather lackluster in the grand scheme of things, though cute it may be. There were chapters that the series teased some interesting moments with some characters and a bit of tension but then it dropped in favor of the romance of the comedy, which, while not bad, is a little disappointing plot wise.

Then there is the amount of ecchi scenes that slip in between certain chapters. With the way that the magical girl is designed, it was to be expected. Still though, there was a lot of moments that had the ecchi as the humor and it’s kind of on the fence type of humor for this writer. Still, there were just a lot of random moments not just with the plot but with the characters as well. In some chapters, there were some interesting characters introduced but ended up being pushed aside as side characters which is a little disappointing.

Basically, the plot had a lot of random moments to it and had little to no flow to it even though there was some solid development to the main leads. The way that series introduces plenty of interesting points and drops in favor of the romance, comedy or ecchi moments is rather disappointing.

Conclusion

Overall, the series does great work in building the main characters and its concept but didn’t have the greatest flow and had a few disappointing falls in plot. Still, the entire series is just a fun piece of romantic comedy that you don’t see enough of and has a whole lot of giggle worthy moments. The main leads of the series is what makes the series truly works and while the plot flow didn’t work all that well, the sweetness and humor make the series not just worth a read but a definite must read.
