The second season of the dark fantasy series that is “Overlord” just made its debut this month and already plans have been released for its humorous spin-off titled “Ple-Ple-Pleiades.”

The spin-off is a series of comedy works featuring the Ainz Ooal Gown and the guardians of the Tomb of Nazarick as chibi characters and what occurs when they are not out fighting or searching for new information. Directed by Minoru Ashina with animation done by Studio Puyukai, the first episode for the work features characters Ainz and Albedo with their voice actors Satoshi Hino and Yumi Hara returning for their roles.

For a limited time of only 2 weeks per episode, the spin-off will be having its episodes streamed on the official Youtube of Kadokawa Anime.

It was in September 2017 that the spin-off work was fully released. A total of eight works was released and mainly featured a story that began with Ainz having accidentally used the magic item Total Maniac on himself and regaining his emotions in result. Left in a bewildered state, he attempts to pretend everything is fine, but with the battle maids, the Pleiades, awaiting his orders, this is anything but easy.

“Overlord” first began as a light novel series that was written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. Serialized online at 2010, the series was taken over by Enterbrain two years later and spanned a total of 12 volumes. The manga adaptation of the series then came in 2014 with Satoshi Ōshio as the writer and Hugin Miyama as the illustrator. Currently the manga series has 7 volumes released.

The anime adaptation of the series made its debut in July 2015 and ran for 13 episodes before ending in September 2015. Following after the anime were two compilation films that were released on February 25, 2017 and March 11, 2017, respectively.

The story of the series begins in the world of Yggdrasil, a once popular Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game or DMMORPG. After 12 years, the game is now scheduled to shut down. At its final hour, only one player remains in one guild, Momonga, a powerful wizard and master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown.

As he sits at the guild throne alongside the NPCs, he awaits the final minutes of the game. To his shock however, when the clock strikes midnight, he finds himself still in the game and in his avatar. In addition to this the NPCs have come to life and the entire Ainz Ooal Gown has been transported to a completely different world. Thus, begins the adventure of Momonga in solving the mystery of the sudden changes with the game and whether they may be other players in the same predicament.
