Synopsis
A young man by the name of Hiiragi Kyouichirou was heading to Tokyo in order to study in university, but due to stray thought and possibly his family sword, he ends up getting involved in a plot for the Imperial Army
General Thoughts
The overall structure of the series seems to, put it lightly, a bit of a mess. Sure, it had a generally interesting introduction and worked out is short time rather effectively for the first half of the series. But for the rest for the series it seems as the plot was rather rushed and made it seem as if the ending dropped for most episodes. The most positive points that saves most of the series is on the characters and the general idea of the story. For a short and clumsy as it was, it did give a lot of interesting points and good character exploration for the most part.
Still, it doesn’t change the fact that the general structure of the plot itself seemed to go all over the place and seemed to have dropped in the final half of the series. In addition to this, there are some clear cliches in terms of the character portrayals, especially on the supposed villain of the story. On the other hand, the story managed to tackle on some interesting philosophical points for the story and gave a type of depth to some of the characters. It does not change the fact however that there are way too many cliff hangers and questions left unanswered by the series in terms of its supernatural works and story line.
Ending Thoughts
Confusing, that is the best word to describe how the series decided to end itself. In the previous episode, it seemed as if there was this build up to something much bigger or at the very least touch on something higher, but it seems everything was dropped at this last moment and has left with it, way too many questions and too little answers. This in turned became a rather big disappointment for the series given how much potential it had when it reached the second half. Basically put, the series seemed to have a solid foundation to it only to end up rather anticlimactic for a finish and thus cut things rather short.
Conclusion
The series held a lot of potential in terms of concept and characters, but as it progressed, it presented way too many questions and too little answers as stated. It had its moments of depth and character exploration but for the most part it seems a lot of the plot ended up cut off with the amount of cliff hangers that went on in between certain episodes. Towards the second half of the series, it seemed as if it was building up to something bigger but in the end the series decided to give the viewer another confusing and anticlimactic point to end with, cutting its rising potential in the process. Overall, it was an interesting albeit somewhat disappointing series.
