At the 2nd anniversary event for the “Sanrio Danshi” a.k.a. “Sanrio Boys” project held on Sunday at the Sanrio Puroland theme park, the third PV video for the upcoming anime series is released. More than a new PV, new details have been revealed on the anime’s official website.
In the video where it describes the anime as “This is the story of how ‘I’ became ‘we,’” additional cast were revealed fort the series. Taking on the role of Kouta’s friend Yamato Machida is Daisuke Kishio, the voice behind Kurama in “Kamisama Kiss.” Chihiro Suzuki, who played a role in “Zombie-Loan” as Chitose, will be voicing Tadashi Tsuchiya. Last but not least, Makoto Furukawa, the voice of Saitama in “One Punch Man”, will be voicing Satoshi Matsuo.
With the main cast for the series, starting from left to right comprise of:
Jun Oosuka as Shunsuke Yoshino, a high school boy who loves Hello Kitty
Sōma Saitō as Yū Mizuno, a high school boy who loves My Melody
Takuya Eguchi as Kōta Hasegawa, a high school boy who loves Pom Pom Purin
Hiroyuki Kagura as Ryō Nishimiya, a high school boy who loves Little Twin Stars
Yūma Uchida as Seiichiro Minamoto, a high school boy who loves Cinnamoroll
As for the new details revealed on the anime website, the first reveal is the anime’s theme songs. The opening theme song for the series is titled “Seishun Interlude” a.k.a. “Adolescent Interlude” and will be performed by the five main cast members. They will also be performing the ending theme song “Now on dream!” under the group name Sanrio Danshi. Both songs will be found in a CD to be on sale on February 21 then a CD containing the anime’s soundtrack to be released on March 21.
The second piece of news revealed is that on March 21, the series’ first Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume will contain the first two television episodes and two unaired original anime shorts titled “Hajimete no Otsukai Danshi” a.k.a. “First-Time Errand Boys” and “Okuyukashii Danshi” a.k.a. “Refined Boys.” In addition to this there will be two more television episodes and one more unaired anime short to be found in the remaining five monthly volumes.
They are titled "S Rare Danshi" a.k.a.”S Rare Boys”, “LINE Danshi” a.k.a. “LINE Boys”, “Miteshimatta Danshi” a.k.a. “Boys Who Were Spotted”, and “Moeagaru Danshi” a.k.a. “Flaming Boys.” Overall, the website has confirmed a total of 12 television episodes and seven unaired original anime shorts.
The story for the upcoming anime takes focus on a high school boy named Kouta Hasegawa. He has a love for the yellow Pom Pom Purin dog but keeps this fact a secret. Upon entering into high school he ends up meeting Yū Mizuno, a boy who likes the bunny My Melody. Along with Yuu, Kouta finds that he and his new friend are not the only one who likes Sanrio’s cute characters as they meet Shunsuke Yoshino, Ryō Nishimiya, and Seiichiro Minamoto. Together the group learns to accept their love of the characters instead of feeling embarrassed.
The anime will be making its debut on January 6 in Japan and will air on Tokyo MX and MBS. Followed after this is a January 8 airing on TVQ Broadcasting Kyushu and a January 11 airing on TV Hokkaido. There will also be two different manga adaptations to be done by Mai Andou and will be released in the Manga ONE app that launched in April 2016, and one in Sho-Comi that launched in June 2016. The first manga takes focus on the everyday lives of the boys, while the second takes a look at a romance between a heroine and the boys.
