Synopsis
In a world where crimes committed by wizards can only be tracked by another wizard, The Wizard, Karol Kinds, Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper are banded together in shaping London’s history.
The Good
The firs notable thing to find with the chapter is the amount of unique designs on not just the setting but the characters mainly. From the little details of their costumes and expression to the moments of fantasy and action, every moment of the chapter seems so distinct from the other. What really makes the art stand out however is how it presents the plot concepts and the overall fantasy work. Things like a character undergoing a spell or how the character floats make for great highlights in the chapter.
Outside of the art design and how it works however, the general plot introduced is highly interesting as well. The mystery work and the action moments mixed rather well and gave way to a solid character introduction without giving away too much exposition on them. So in terms of visual work and story structuring, the chapter gave a solid first impression and presents a high amount of potential.
The Bad
The main character may have an interesting ability and their overall introduction was rather strong, it doesn’t change the fact that there is a lot of generic points to be found with K.K. If it’s not him being goofy and flirty with females, it is the fact that he is some mysterious character that has some powerful side to him but he acts laid back half the time. There are far too many characters that can be matched with him, but then again, there is also room for him to show himself as different from the usual.
It’s not very obvious but there were certain scenes that could have been done better or given more context to. Such as the interaction between the officer and the protagonist. When looking at the story as a whole, as a fantasy work, it shows a potentially interesting story, but as a mystery work? Not as much. After all, the whole woman in trouble and the main character actually turning out to be this mysterious and powerful figure has been done before in most action works.
Conclusion
The visual and story work holds a very solid introduction and design. However, there are also some generic points to the main character and the mystery plot to be noted as well. As a fantasy work it holds a lot of potential. The setting and overall exposition of the characters is just enough to present a work of interest. Still, the generic points of the main character could also be improved in the future or it could just something slight against the manga, either way, with just one chapter, a strong impression was left behind.
