Iconic Characters Hello Kitty and Pikachu Elected as 2025 Expo Ambassadors to Osaka

Although World Expo 2025 is still pretty much far, Osaka is now making its preparations for it.

Tayo Kono, Foreign Minister of Japan has appointed the iconic characters Hello Kitty and Pikachu to be their ambassadors for the mentioned city on Wednesday. Mascots of the character were present during the recognition event as Kono awards them with this prestigious title. This announcement was also featured in Kano’s official Twitter account.

Osaka, Japan is hoping that they will be selected for this upcoming expo. The selection for the official host city for World Expo 2025 will not be selected yet until November 2018. As early as now, Japan doing what they can for Osaka and Japan to be noticed to the world. It is competing against other candidates like Yekaterinburg, Russia; Baku, Azerbaijan; and Paris, France.

Aside from these iconic Japanese characters, Kano also appointed Nobel Prize-winning stem cell researcher Shinya Yamanaka and professional soccer player Keisuke Honda.
