“Valkyrie Chronicles 4” is officially headed for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2018. Announced by Sega, the game is set for its consoles released in 2018 for the West and March 21 for Japan.

There are a number of features to be found with the game including art, music and gameplay. In the game the player will be going through a coming of age story wherein they take command of the eager, young Commander Claude Wallace, engineer/heavy weapons extraordinaire Riley Miller, hotheaded Darcsen Raz, ice-cold ace sniper Kai Schulen, and more. Together they face the painful realities of war and the challenges that their friendship must face.

Tying in the story together is the signature hand-drawn visual style done by CANVAS with inspiration taken from watercolor compositions along with a sweeping orchestral soundtrack composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto.

For gameplay, players will be able to enjoy what is called the “BLiTZ” Battle System. It is a part overhead turn-based strategy, part RPG, and part real-time 3rd person shooter type of gameplay from the series, making its return with new aspects.

Included are an explosive new class called the Grenadier, numerous offensive/defensive battleship support options, chances for a unit to have a “Last Stand” action before death, and more. In addition to all of this there will be more units on larger-scale maps than ever before.

The full story of the game sets itself in year 1935 EC and tells of the continent of Europa as it undergoes it second war between the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance. The Imperial are relentless in battle and while the Federation struggle valiantly, their victory is slowly slipping away. In the face of this, they make the decision to execute “Operation Northern Cross”, a last-ditch attempt to capture the imperial capital and end the war.

Ensuring the success of the operation is Commander Claude Wallace and his loyal childhood friends in Squad E. However, in the face of harsh bone-chilling elements, waves of imperial soldiers, and the terrifying Valkyria, this mission will be anything but easy. Especially as the team discovers a truth they shouldn’t have.
