First Impression: Two Car

Synopsis

Yuri Miyata and Megumi Meguro are high schoolers who both aim for the same thing, to reach the top in the sport of motorcycle sidecar racing against six other rival pairs.

The Good

As a series that is motorcycle sidecar racing, it is to be expected that an attention to detail will be placed on the vehicles of the sport. The motorcycle sidecars are not the only one given attention to detail though as the episode presents a variety of colorful and creative characters throughout the episode. In terms of animation, the training and racing scenes both come off as very smooth and easy to grasp in terms of how the mechanic of the sport works.

On the note of the sport, that part of the series makes for a unique aspect in the sports genre of anime works. The way that the anime introduced the viewer to it is pretty typical of a sports anime but is also a solid one. The same goes for the introduction of the characters and the sport itself. Other than its art, animation and introductions, the episode gave a

The Bad

While it does have some solid points to it, there is also a number of tropes to be spotted in the episode as well. Whether it be from the running late trope to the different kinds of character with generic sports anime character traits, it’s pretty easy enough to spot. To be fair there isn’t a whole lot of sports anime that involve a whole bunch of female characters, but still, a change in the usual character types such as the reckless ones, the aggressive one or even the aces would be nice.

The animation on the other hand, while smooth in terms of the training and racing scenes, seems to have a slight miss in certain scenes. For one thing, the background scenes could have been done a little better. But then as a first episode, there is still room for improvement on these parts.Still, aside from the sports scene and the sport itself, there is not much different from the usual sports anime.

Conclusion

The sport is interesting and the introduction of the episode was strong, but for the most part it shows the rather standard level of sports anime. While it is fun that it is a new addition to the short list of female focused sports anime, there is a lot of generic tropes to note in just the first episode alone. This is mainly on the characters, as, while they do have a creative design to most of them, their characters present them as at least partially predictable, so overall, it’s showing to be a rather standard sports anime for the start but there is room for change.
