It was on October 21 that the live-action film adaptation of Shuichi Asou’s comedy manga series The Disastrous Life of Saiki K officially came out. Now three weeks later, a special reveal was made by the creator of the himself.

Posted on his official Twitter, the manga creator reveals that he in fact made a cameo appearance in the film. Prior to this reveal, Shuichi had never revealed his face to the media and as such, there would have been no way for a fan to have spotted him in the film. With the reveal of his cameo appearance, Shuichi also posted photos of himself as one of the students at P.K. Academy.

Translated to English, the manga creator’s post states:

“I think it is OK to reveal now. I made a brief appearance in the Saiki film. It was very difficult for a 30-year-old man to prepare for a role of a high school student, but it became a very good experience. I think I was able to grow one step as an actor. The film The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is now showing amid enormous popular acclaim.(・∀・) "

When the film was first released, it screened in 275 theaters across Japan and had earned 194 million yen from the 156,000 ticket sales in its debut weekend. In result of this, the film earned a spot as the second top-grossing film of the weekend and is expected to end its domestic run with around 1.5 billion yen.

When the post was released, a comment from the film’s director was released stating that, “It was a wonderful acting."

The manga series first made its debut in June 2012 and is currently being serialized by Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump with 23 volumes released. An anime adaptation of the series came out in July 2016 and spans a total of 120 episodes, which turned into a 24 episode compilation. Other than the anime adaptation and live-action film, the franchise has also released a game in November 2016.
