First Episode Impression: ClassicaLoid Season 2

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

This is the continued tale of two high school students and a boarding house filled with ClassicaLoids, beings with special abilities and said to be reincarnations of famous classical musicians

The Good

The first good note to find with the episode is that there is note continuity from the first season found throughout. Most often when it comes to a second season, the new story simply jumps in with only flashes of the previous season, but not here. The comedy also remains true with its wackiness and hit or miss notes. But what did improve and made the episode shine was the art implemented into the Musik scenes, even if the conductor behind it was not so conventional to the previous conductors.

Overall the general flow of the episode was well done and the insert of the new story worked out well for the most part and the design of the new characters are also a positive thing to note. So in terms of continuity, art work and faithfulness to the comedy and music, it is a thumbs up response from this writer.

The Bad

The problem with this continuity however, is the fact that there is little to no development shown between the dynamics of the characters and their interactions. Sure enough there are some slight moments of though to them but for the majority there is no change and its a little off putting. Even if it does hold the comedy genre and holds little focus to the drama aspect that is lying in between scenes, a little show of development could have worked.

Then we get the trope of a new character and from the first scene alone it is quite obvious that the series is going for the, “not all the he seems” trope of a character. With the way they handled it as well felt like a little early in revealing their cards. Simply put, the episode presented a disappointment in dynamic and development.

Conclusion

While it is nice to see some continuity and improved art work in a new season of a series, the fact that there is little show in change is a little disheartening. But on the other hand, that may be a bit harsh as it is only the first episode, still, the fact that they went the route of the new character trope is a bit of a toss up in opinion and to boil it all down, the premise of the new series could have been done better than what was presented. At least the Musik scenes did well to pull things up.
