Yuu, Manga Artist of "Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki” Passes Away

Posted in: Anime News

The announcement is out and it is official, as of July 1, manga artist Yuu is no more. Details on her passing and the revelation were both revealed by her husband on Monday along with him reminiscing on the artist.

He revealed that her passing had occurred due to a sudden heart failure that had come around while she was undergoing treatment for an unknown illness. Said illness had come about the end of May, and supposedly, Yuu was gradually recovering when the incident occurred. However, it is to be noted that the artist’s sudden passing had no direct relationship to her chronic illness.

Manga artist Yuu first debuted in 2012 when she was given a request to draw a manga adaptation of Mamoru Hosoda’s “Wolf Children” film. According to her husband, she had loved to draw since she was young and when she received this request, it was at this moment that she realized her dream of becoming a manga creator.

The work was titled, “Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki” and was published by Yen Press in English in 2014. In the following year the manga received an Eisner award nomination.

Followed after the manga adaptation, Yuu went on to creating her own work from 2014 to 2017 titled, “Go-Jikan-me no Sensō” a.k.a. “The Fifth-Period War or Home, Sweet Home!” in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine. In the course of her career, her husband had noted that, while the work was hard, the fact that she was doing something that she had a passion brought joy to her heart.

He also noted that Yuu was eager to create works that drew the attention of many and enjoyed the chance to meet fans in doujin events and talk with them. However, due to her busy schedule and poor health, she was not able to go as many as before. Still when she did meet with them, it was as if she was drawing courage from them along with strength when communicating with them.

There is much regret to be found with Yuu’s husband on her passing, however, he still thanked all her fans for making her dream come true and allowing her to make many works.
