The Nintendo 3DS eshop has officially released a demo for the upcoming  dungeon crawler titled “Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth.” With the launch of the demo also comes the announcement of what to expect with the launch edition of the game.

“Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth” is as stated, a dungeon crawler RPG. Developed by Atlus, it is the latest addition to the “Etrian Odyssey” game series first released back in 2007. The complete version of the fifth game will later be released on October 17, 2017 for Nintendo 3DS.

The story of the game tells of a world tree known as the Yggdrasil found in the land of Arcania. Filled with mysteries and legends, to the four different races residing in the land, there lies treasures untold. For those who wish to face the challenge of Yggdrasil’s labyrinth however, must prepare first be recognized as official adventurers by visiting the city of Iorys, a city located near the base of the world tree.

In the demo released players will be limited to reaching until level 10 and access upto the third level of the tree. On the upside however, they are able to create a party comprised of any available character or class to their liking and once the complete game is released there will be a carry over option for them to use.

Other features set for the game are as follows:

A Choose your own Adventure Theme:From selecting your party members to venturing out to the vast labyrinth of the Yggdrasil Tree, the game sets the player onto a path of their choosing. Whether it be what to do in given scenarios within the game or the type of quests they choose, they get the option and more with Iorys, the home base city of the game setting.

An Explorer’s Gameplay: In previous games, a unique point of the gameplay was the mapping of the labyrinth. At the bottom screen of the 3DS there would be a tile-based map which players had to fill out as they delved deeper into the labyrinth. Now that concept is gone and instead players can mark their maps for any treasures, traps or simple blocks for future reference.

The Classic Battle Type, Turn-based: With great treasure there lies great challenges before it. From terrifying monsters to mini bosses, there will be many challengers that an adventurer will be facing so to test and develop their strategy skills the game gives the player a turn-based battle mode for proper planning and party composition.

Character Customization Creativeness: There are 4 races and 10 classes and that means multiple possibilities for a player to choose from. Adding a streamlined skill tree/class advancement, players hold a large ball of creativity and party building in their hands.

Music and Art fit For a Fantasy World:Returning to bring out the signature art and music of the game are series illustrator Yuji Himukai and recognized composer Yuzo Koshiro.

For the launch edition of the game, the features include first, a 24-page artbook containing Yuji Himukai’s character art and concept sketches for the game. Then there is Yuzo Koshiro’s soundtrack placed into a 6-track music CD, both found within a colorful outer box decorated with Yggdrasil Tree and more.
