"GRANBLUE FANTASY The Animation" Becomes Top Selling Blu-ray of the Week with its 5th Volume

Reaching the top sales of the week according to Oricon’s latest report, is Granblue Fantasy The Animation series’ limited edition Blu-ray of it’s 5th volume which was released on August 23. With a total of 17,000 units sold in its first week, the Blu-ray volume secured its spot as number one in sales ranking by August 27.

This is the first time the a volume of the series reached the number one spot in sales as all previous volumes have only reached in the top 5 ranking. Featured in the 5th volume are the 9th and 10th episodes of the anime adaptation of the game produced by A-1 Pictures.

“Granblue Fantasy The Animation” is based on the “Granblue Fantasy” role-playing video game. Developed by Cygames the game was released in March 2014 and was available for Android and iOS. It was in January 2017 that the game gained an anime adaptation and ran for a total of 13 episodes before ending in June of the same year.

The story of the series tells of a world where islands in the sky exist. On one such island called Zinkenstill, lives a boy named Gran and his winged lizard Vryn. One day, the two encounter an escapee of the military government known as the Erst Empire, a young girl by the name of Lyria.

Holding a letter for Gran’s grandfather, it states, “I will be waiting at Estalucia, Island of Stars.” Deciding to follow the message, the duo seek out in search of the island while escaping from the military government seeking to use its military to rule the world.

The sixth volume of the series has already been confirmed for released and will be featuring a special prize along with it. Those who purchase not just the next volume on October 25 but also the full Blu-ray/DVD will have a chance at a rare item for the game with a serial code they will receive.
