A Look into Mairimashita! Iruma-kun

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

Suzuki Irumu was but a simple and good young man who did well in chores but had irresponsible parents. This time, his parents decide to take things a step further and have sold him to a demon in exchange for money. But rather than eat him, the demon wants him to be his grandson and go to demon school?! Might be good if you’re into shows like Rosario+Vampire.

The Good

The main plot point where the protagonist is not inadvertently sent to the Underworld but rather sold to a demon is an interesting plot point worth exploring. The execution of the plot works well and there isn’t too much exposition that the story is simple enough to follow and the same could be said for the art style, with the little details such as the demons’ features.

The world building of the Underworld in the series is another upside to mark for the place and check for your sake. The characters are all amusing in their own way as well and are not all that you would expect. With no warning they can leave a surprising bout of humor or a sense of depth that is not expected.

The Bad

At the rate that the series is going, it is quite obvious that the protagonist is going to be the grand powerful figure that many other protagonists like him end up becoming a high ranking character for no reason than that he is an anomaly. True, that in the generic sense of the series, he is technically an anomaly with how he was not summoned, not reincarnated or any other unintended scenario but rather sold to the other character and placed into the Underworld, something rarely seen in a comedy supernatural where all things begin with an accident or a summoning.

Then there is also the fact that the character is as generic as can be and has little stand out points unless he is given the chance to do something that would make him stand-out such as battling and winning against s highly powerful character or ending up with the teacher as his familiar. Overall, the path of the story is pretty obvious and one should expect an overpowered character soon with a completely generic no stand-out personality other than knowing when to say “no” and a rather generic art style if you don’t count as the judges made a music

Conclusion

There is a very interesting concept to be had with the manga series but at the rate that it is going there is also a high chance of the protagonist ending up as a high ranking figure seeing as he gained a ring that marks a piece of a “prophecy” declaring the marks of the next Demon King. The characters are all interesting in their own way but the protagonists is very much the generic type that has been used before. Other than the plot, concepts, art and the detail details that can be found, the series is an interesting read though large aspects of it are quite fascinating.
