From Super Nintendo to PS4, PS Vita, and PC: The Secret of Mana Remake

Posted in: Anime News

The fantasy RPG by Square Enix, “Secret of Mana” otherwise known as “Seiken Densetsu 2” has gone from being only being for the Super Nintendo Entertainment system to a 3D remake open for the Playstation 4, PS Vista and PC systems.

Featuring a visual update, high-definition 3D graphics, voice-overs, talk events, newly-arranged music and gameplay improvements, the game is set to be released on February 15, 2018. To reassure fans of the original work, Square Enix has also released a promise to uphold the charm of the work which appealed to so many.

For the Playstation 4 and PS Vista to be released in Japan, the price is set at 4,800 yen for both the digital and physical product. Priced at 13,870 yen and exclusively found at the Square Enix e-Store are a variety of fans to purchase. These include a collector’s edition including a copy of the game, pop-up book, arranged tracks CD, and Randi, Primm, and Popoi figures.

Those who make a purchase through Amazon Japan will also have a chance to get the user’s manual originally included with the 1993 release.

Then there are also “Moogle Suit” character costumes for Randi, Primm, and Poppoi, a “Tiger Two-Piece” costume for Primm, “Tiger Suit” costumes for Randi and Popoi, and three PlayStation Network avatars which will be available for those who pre-order at the Playstation store. The three costumes along with a downloadable can also be purchase through pre-orders and first-week purchases made at Steam.

Originally released in Japan as “Seiken Densetsu 2”, the “Secret of Mana” is an action role-playing game and the sequel to the 1991 game “Seiken Densetsu” otherwise known as “Final Fantasy Adventure” in North America and in “Mystic Quest” in Europe. “The Secret of Mana” is the first to be marketed as part of the “Mana” series rather than the “Final Fantasy series.”

Set in a high-fantasy world, this is the tale that begins with three boys from a small Pots village who decide to disobey their Elder’s instructions and search a treasure said to be hidden in a local waterfall they are forbidden to go.

One boy ends up being separated from the other two and falls into a lake where he discovers a rusty sword embedded into a stone and he pulls the sword free under the guidance of a disembodied voice. This results in him inadvertantly releasing monsters to his village and him being banished.

But not all is lost as a travelling knight by the name of Jema comes across him and recognizes his sword for what it truly is, a legendary artifact known as the Mana sword. Thus this marks the start of the hero’s story and he sets off to a journey for the eight Mana Temples.
