Makoto Shinkai’s ‘your name’ Dominates Blu-ray Sales in Japan!

For three consecutive weeks, the blu-ray disc releases of Makoto Shinkai’s anime film masterpiece your name. dominated in blu-ray sales and remained in Oricon’s overall Blu-ray Disc chart. If you want to watch this move again and again, you may purchase eitherthe Standard Edition, Special Edition, or the Blu-ray Disc Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD release edition. All were released on July 26.

The Standard DVD release of your name. sold a grand total of 276, 443 copies and is officially ranked #1 in Oricon’s top 10 overall DVD chart. This is the first anime film to have its blu-ray and DVD releases stay in the charts for three weeks.

your name. is a huge commercial success in Japan that grossed a total of 25 billion yen. This is the first non-Studio Ghibli film to hit the 100 million yen mark in theater gross sales. The movie was played in twelve consecutive weekends in Japan and has been topping the charts of different movie theaters in other Asian countries like the Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan to name a few.

Rotten Tomatoes reviewed the movie as “As beautifully animated as it is emotionally satisfying, Your Name adds another outstanding chapter to writer-director Makoto Shinkai’s filmography.” It also received a great reception from other websites like Metacritic, which was rated at 78 out of 100 which indicates that it has generally favorable reviews.” Even The Japan Times gave the movie a rating of 4 out of 5 for its “blend of gorgeous, realistic detail and emotionally grounded fantasy".
