Coming in Winter is Atelier Lydie & Soeur for PS4/Vita/Switch with Details Revealed

Posted in: Anime News

Winter brings Japan a new game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch and its name is “Lydie to Soeur no Atelier ~Fushigi no Kaiga no Renkinjutsushi~” a.k.a. “Atelier Lydie and Soeur: The Alchemists of the Mysterious Painting.” Along with the confirmed season release, game developer Gust also reveals further details for the game.

For the character designs, illustrators Yuugen and NOCO from the previous two games in the “Mysterious” will be returning to take charge of the position.

Three new features are found in the game, one is a new item called “Kasseika Item” (Activation Item), which, when used in alchemy, results in great effects. The second is a “combination battles” type combat system where gamers will get to strategize their party composition and who will be their forward and rear fighters. Those who favor using alchemy in battle will get to use a new system called “Battle Mix.”

As an added bonus, those who order the game through Gust’s online store will get costumes based on Marie and Elie, the protagonists of the first two games in the series, “Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg” and “Atelier Elie: The Alchemist of Salburg 2.”

On the note of characters, the currently known characters for “Atelier Lydie and Soeur: The Alchemists of the Mysterious Painting” are Lydie and Soeur Marlen, the protagonists.

Lydia Marlen is to be voiced by Maria Naganawa, the voice actress who plays a role in “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid” as Kanna, one of the series’ dragons. Her character is described as the older and gentler sibling of the twin sisters who work in their father’s unpopular atelier.

She’s a social girl who moves to the own beat of her drum but is also a bit of an airhead as well. Between the two sisters, she is a diligent student with a good nose for the arts and little preferences over physical activity.

Soeur on the other hand is the the tomboyish younger sister with a bit of a mischievous streak. She is being voiced by Hikaru Akao, who plays the role of Lulune Louie in “Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria.”

Her character design is by NOCO and is also described as having the air of a genius and broad knowledge of things. However she also loves to tease people and has a great weakness with bugs of any kind that even one simply touching her sends her in a frenzy.

The story of the game tells of the two sisters and their work in helping out their father’s alchemy work at his atelier which also doubles as their home located within the capital of Merveille, Adelet Kingdom. They aim to turn the atelier into the best in the kingdom but this is no easy feat seeing as the atelier has not been doing all that well lately.

But then, a great change comes to the the twin sisters’ lives one day as they discover a painting in the basement of the atelier and find that they are able to enter into it. Because of this, the two girls explore the painting’s world where they fight monsters and gather rare ingredients to use in their alchemy work and in turn boost the atelier’s popularity.
