Over 500,000 Attendees Gathered in the Weekend-long Comiket 92!

The hype is indeed very real!

Just this weekend, the popular otaku fan-centered event Comiket 92 was held at Tokyo Big Sight. Attendees from Japan and other parts of the globe gather here to buy doujins, fan-made merchandise, and more. It confirmed that over 500,000 attendees were able to join the weekend-long event. Comiket 90 was able to gather 530,000 attendees for the entire weekend while last December’s Comiket 91 was able to get over 550,000 attendees.

Over 160,000 people were recorded to attend the first day of Comiket 92. The highest volume of attendees ever recorded so far was in summer 2013 where over 210,000 were recorded in attendance. The Comiket staff is expecting bigger number this year since Friday was also a holiday in Japan and the first day number of attendees was already massive.

There were some changes to this year’s event venue however. West 2 Hall of Tokyo Big Sight is closed due to some expansion construction work being done in preparation for the upcoming Olympics in 2020.

The first day of the previous Comiket 91 was able to record over 170,000 numbers of attendees on December 29.

Comiket 93 is slated to happen on December 29-31.
