It’s the 50th anniversary of the “Yōkai Ningen Bem” a.k.a. “Humanoid Monster Bem” franchise and in celebration of this, a new gag anime series is announced for production by animation studio DLE Inc., a studio recognized for having produced works such as the classic action comedy series “Lupin the Third” and the time travelling comedy “Thermae Romae.”
Originally released on October 7, 1968, “Yōkai Ningen Bem” a.k.a. “Humanoid Monster Bem” was an anime series that ran for a total of 26 episodes before ending on March 31, 1969.
A remake of the series was released in 2006 and too had 26 episodes. Five years after this a live action series was made starring KAT-TUN’s Kazuya Kamenashi and had 10 episodes. Right after in December 2012 a live action film with the same cast was released.
The story of the series takes focus on three ugly humanoid monsters/youkai named Bem, Bera, and Bero. The fight for justice and fervently wish to become human, for while they live amongst humans and fight against injustice, the three are ostracized from both humans and other youkai.
For the new anime entitled “Ore-tacha Yōkai Ningen”, it will be making its premiere in October and is marked as an original work to be credited to ADK.
Working as producers for the new series is NAS and DLE. Acting as director for the anime shorts is Yuzuru Adachi and he will be working at DLE. Taking charge of the photography and compositing for the series is Kaisei Kishi. A working on the sound effects is Yuuki Sudou.
The three main cast has been confirmed for the new series and comprise of firstly, Tomokazu Sugita, the voice of Kaede Manyuuda in the latest gambling anime series, “Kakegurui” is playing as the character Bem. Bera is being played by Kana Kurashina, recognized for her role in the film “Kid’s Return” as Manami. Lastly playing as Bero is Kenta Suga a Japanese actor who is represented by the talent agency, Central Group, then Horipro and playing as Ryouta in the film “Kemono Michi.”
In addition to the new anime project for the franchise, it also been announced that a rebroadcast of the original 1968-1969 classic supernatural adventure anime will be having a rebroadcast by Tokyo MX and BS11. The 2006 remake anime will also be making its way back to the screen with some channels in commemoration of the 50th anniversary.
