The return of Takashi Shiina’s Zettai Karen Children has come as announced on Wednesday by this year’s combined 37th and 38th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine.
Marked for August 23 in the 39th issue of the magazine, it was also stated in the issue that the manga will be entering into its final arc with the second half of the high school student arc.
For those who may not be familiar with the tale of the series, it is a supernatural tale that tells of three ten-year olds named Akashi, Aoi Nogami, and Shiho Sannomiya who hold paranormal powers. Acting as their caretaker is the hapless lieutenant Shiho Sannomiya. While a simple beginning, as the manga went on, it took a turn into a more darker perspective for the story.
It was during the end of the the first half of the “high school student” arc that the hiatus came for the story. Following the sudden stop of the tale in the 20th issue of the magazine of April 12, Shiina, the creator of the series announced that the manga would be making its return in the summer. On March 17 Shogakukan published the manga’s 48th volume and will be publishing the 49th volume on August 18.
The manga series first began as a work serialized by Shogakukan’s manga magazine Shōnen Sunday. An anime series on the manga was created in 2008 and ran until 2009 with a total of 51 episodes plus an OVA (Original Video Anime) in 2010. The manga even gained recognition from Sentai Filmworks, an American anime licensing company recognized to have worked on a variety of series including, Clannad, Highschool of the Dead, Angel Beats and The Pet Girl of Sakurasoum, and gained a series in North America titled, “Psychic Squad” in 2012.
Aside from these, the series has also gained a spin-off series in 2013 titled “The Unlimited – Hyōbu Kyōsuke” where the focus of the story was on the series antagonist Kyōsuke Hyōbu. Just two years ago the series was streamed on Crunchyroll and released on home video by Sentai Filmworks.
