Singer Mai Kuraki adds a Guinness World Record to the list of achievements for shounen series “Detective Conan” a.k.a. “Case Closed” as she is awarded the Guinness World Record for singing the most theme songs for a single animation series.
With a performance of 21 theme songs is Kuraki is officially recognized for her record with a ceremony held on July 25 in Tokyo. At the ceremony she expressed her amazement over the achievement. She relayed on how she first first enjoyed the “Detective Conan” manga as a fan, as she and her older brother would spend their pocket money to purchase Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine and how the stories of Conan helped her through difficult times in high school.
More than this, she expresses her thanks to her fans for all the support she’s received over the 17 year collaboration and hopes to continue working on the series that imparted so much friendship and power onto her.
In commemoration of this achievement, a “Mai Kuraki × Detective Conan COLLABORATION BEST 21 – Shinjitsu wa Itsumo Uta ni Aru!” album is set to be released on October 25. Featuring all Kuraki’s “Detective Conan” tracks to date, the 2-disc music CD will be having a first edition limited printing with a bonus DVD. Further details on the album will be revealed at a later date.
It was in 2000 that Kuraki began her work with the “Detective Conan” series by performing the ending theme, “Secret of my heart” when she was still in high school. In addition to her debut in the series she also she released her debut album, Delicious Way, which debuted at number-one and sold over 2,210,000 copies in its first week.
Overall, Kuraki has performed a total eight opening themes, ten ending themes and four movie themes for the her career for the series and with this Guinness award, she holds two records along with the recognition for being the only female artist to have all of her singles consecutively debut in the Top 10 since her debut.
Most recently she will be performing a song for the upcoming film “Case Closed: Crimson Love Letter”, which be making its debut in April.
