Unlimited Reading Campaign for "Rose of Versailles" until July 28

An unlimited reading campaign has opened from July 24 to 28 for the nine volumes of “Rose of Versailles” with the electronic bookstore honto as fans of the series and patrons of the bookstore have a chance to enjoy a “FULL unlimited free all-you-can-read fair.”

For those who may not be familiar with the series, “Rose of Versailles”, a.k.a. “Berusaiyu no Bara”/“Lady Oscar” or even “La Rose de Versailles”, is a 1972 shoujo manga series created by Riyoko Ikeda and serialized by Shueisha. It is one of Ikeda’s best-known titles in shōjo manga and media franchises, with several musical adaptations by Takarazuka Revue, an anime adaptation by Tokyo Movie Shinsha with 40 episodes.

Other than “Rose of Versailles”, Riyoko Ikeda is also known to have created the shoujo series, “The Window of Orpheus” a.k.a. “Orpheus no Mado”, which was published by Shueisha in Margaret from 1975 to 1981, and tells the love story involving two boys named Klaus and Isaac and a girl that they see through a window.

“Rose of Versailles” is set during the Victorian era of France tells of girl named Oscar François de Jarjayes. Raised as a boy in order to become her father’s successor as leader of the Palace guards, Oscar has grown into a brilliant combatant with a strong sense of justice and a pride for the life she has lead so far.

However, with the rising tension amongst the impoverished, signs of a revolution begin to arise and has Oscar town between class loyalty and her desire to help the oppressed lower class. It does not help that not only does she hold a friendship with Marie Antoinette, but in her journey throughout the series, she also comes to struggle in her desire to live a life as both a militant and a regular woman as the tale covers her relationship not only with Marie Antoinette but also Count Axel von Fersen, and servant and best friend André Grandier.

In addition to the unlimited reading campaign, there is also a 30% off sale for Ikeda’s works with a distribution of coupons which can be purchased at where the electronic bookstore’s sites. Furthermore, a special age introducing a line-up of future work and more will be revealed from this campaign starting on July 31.
