Sanrio Collaborates with ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ Franchise, New Items to Release This Fall!

Posted in: Anime News

When you hear the name “Sanrio”, then characters like My Melody and Hello Kitty immediately come into mind. Now what would happen if this company collaborated with a popular franchise like Fullmetal Alchemist?

Well, it actually happened! It was officially announced on Wednesday by Sanrio that the company will be collaborating with the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise to create special merchandise and characters. They also released an image of a cute Edward Elric and a cat. A Twitter account in relation to this collaboration has also been created and items are slated to go on sale this fall! In relation to merchandise, toy company Good Smile revealed that they will be releasing Nendoroids of Roy Mustang, Al, and Ed.

The collaboration is related to the upcoming premiere of the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist on December 1 in Japan. Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of the manga is also working on a “special-edition” comic in which you can get and read upon the movie’s premiere day.

The film is directed by Fumihiko Sori. To quote what he said in relation to producing the movie and the faithfulness of the adaptation, “I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country." Ryosuke Yamada will play the role of Edward Elric, Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang, and Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell.

With all these collaborations and promotions in relation to the upcoming movie, let’s hope that the movie will really stick to its original source and it would be one movie experience that Fullmetal Alchemist will not forget ever. Although there is still no word for the movie to be premiered in other countries, let’s just keep our fingers crossed for this possibility!
