A new upcoming anime is revealed combining the popular character type of moe girls and the traditional board game that is shogi and its name is “Ryuoh no Oshigoto!” Based on the light novel series written by Shirow Shiratori, illustrated by Shirabi and under the publication of GA Bunko, an imprint of SoftBank’s SB Creative subdivision, the upcoming anime already has a list of staff and cast confirmed.
Originally, the series was first published as a light novel work by SB Creative’s GA Bunko label in 2015. Currently the series has five volumes out with the sixth volume ready to be released on Friday along with the limited edition having a bundle of a drama CD to go with it. It was in the same year that KAZUKI and Kogetaokoge launched a manga adaptation of the novels in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine.
The story tells of Yaichi Kuzuryuu, a simple young man a.k.a the strongest shogi player in history. With his skills in the game, Yaichi has gained the top title of “Ryuo” (Dragon King). But things take a turn for him as he is one approached by Ai Hinatsuru, a shogi-loving elementary student who claims that he had promised her to be her master. The question is, is this claim true?
Directing the series is Shinsuke Yanagi, the director for the comedy series, “Angel’s 3Piece”. Project No. 9, recognized for their work with action/comedy series including “Girls Beyond the Wasteland” and “And you thought there is never a girl online?” is taking on the animation of the series.
For the cast, voicing the shogi champion Yaichi Kuzuryu himself is Yuma Uchida, the voice of Eiji Otori in the male idol series, “Uta no Prince-sama”
Playing as Ai Hinatsuru, the 3rd grade student who claims that she is to be Yaichi is Rina Hidaka, who also plays as Kaede Kaburagi in “Tiger & Bunny”
Ayane Sakura, who voices Hikari Tsuneki in “Seiren” will be playing as Ai Yashajin, a a very demanding girl who attends an elite grade school and who also wants to be Yaichi’s apprentice.
Voicing as the middle schooler and Rank 2 shogi-player Ginko Sora is HIsako Kanemoto, recognized for having played as Ginko Sora. She is described to want to have a brother-sister style relationship with Yaichi.
Taking on the role of the 25 year old woman and the only lady shogi player of the Kiyotaki school, which is run by her father, Keika Kiyotaki is Ai Kayano, the voice actress behind Riri in “Hand Shakers.”
Yurika Kubo, recognized for having played as Loki in “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?”, is taking on the role of the lively and sport 3rd grader, Mio Mizukoshi; who is noted to be Ai Hinatsuru’s friend.
Acting as the ladylike and level-headed 3rd grader who is also friends with Ai, Ayano Sadatou is Chinami Hatsumoto, who is currently voicing Tomoki Sakai in the latest anime, “Dive!”
Finally, the third friend of Ai, Charlotte Izzard, described to be a cute girl who has attended a French academy for 6 years, is being voiced by is Japanese singer and voice actress Yui Ogura.
