Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarou Anime Film Debuts Screenwriter Mari Okada as Director

A new film is coming out in February 24, 2018 and its name is “Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarou” a.k.a. “Let Us Adorn the Morning of Farewells With Flowers.” Placed under P.A. Works for production as revealed on Thursday by P.A. Works and Showgate, the film marks screenwriter Mari Okada’s debut as a director.

Mari Okada, is a Japanese screenwriter recognized in the anime industry for her multiple works to the point that she has earned 16th Animation Kobe Award. Her more popular works include, the dark fantasy “Black Butler” and the fantasy adventure series, “Kyou Kara Maou.”

Prior to this film, Okada has already written scripts for other series with P.A. Works. These series include as “CANAAN”, “Hana-Saku Iroha”, and “A Lull in the Sea”, “The Lost Village”, with “anohana, The Anthem of the Heart”, “Kiznaiver”, and “Toradora!” As her most notable works with the studio.

According to Okada, she had decided to pursue a path as a director when P.A. Works CEO Kenji Horikawa said to her that he “wanted to see a work where she gave her full 100%,” and thought that with the amount of work and effort that directors went through, she would be able to learn what Horikawa meant with his statement.

She expressed that, “As a screenwriter, I’ve wanted to write this story for a long time. As a director, to be able to affect things beyond the script, such as the video and sound, is both a pleasure and a challenge."

Okada also revealed that the story for the film, “will be about contact between people with interwoven meetings and partings. The story will depict a human drama like everyone has experienced at some point that gradually pierces the heart."

Working with Okada in the production is Akihiko Yoshida, a game artist who worked on the character design for the popular game, “Final Fantasy VII” as the film’s original character designer. Taking on the role of chief director is Toshiya Shinohara, the director of the second to fourth “Inuyasha” films and story board artist for a variety of works including “Snow White with the Red Hair.”

Yuriko Ishii, who worked on the key animation of, “Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie – Conqueror of Shamballa” will be working on the character designs for animation and taking on the role of chief animation director. Recognized for his work in “Hanasaku Iroha: Home Sweet Home”, Kazuki Higashiji will be working as the art director of the film.

Tomoaki Okada, who worked on the concept design of “Blast of Tempest” will be working on the art and concept design of the film. Composing the music for the film is Kenji Kawai, the composer for “Barakamon.” Lastly is Kazuhiro Wakabayashi as sound director, having done the role for supernatural series, “Soul Eater.”

On another note, Okada will also be composing the script for the film and an official website for the film has been launched by P.A. Works with a teaser trailer already posted and streaming.
