Beginning as a light novel series written by Gen Urobuchi and illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi under the publication Type – Moon from December 29, 2006 –December 29, 2007; “Fate/Zero” is a prequel series to the popular work that is “Fate/stay Night.” Now after 5 years since the end of the anime adaptation, a standard edition Blu–ray set is about to be released on September 20.
The anime adaptation of the series was first released in October 2011 and ran for a total of 25 episodes before ending in June 2012.
Featured in the upcoming Blu-ray set are the 25 episodes in their “original” edition with never before seen scenes going beyond the broadcasted episodes. In addition to this, the set will be the first of its kind as a Japanese released including the series’ English dub.
With a new art cover illustrated by the original light novels illustrator and Type-Moon co-founder Takashi Takeuchi, the four-disc set is priced at 29,160 yen with tax.
As stated, “Fate/Zero” is the prequel series to the “Fate/stay Night” series. The tale of this work takes ten years before the original story and tells of what is called the Fourth Holy Grail War held in Fuyuki City, Japan.
It is magical tournament in which seven magicians known as Masters undergo a deadly battle royale wherein they summon beings called Servants, reincarnations of legendary souls and heroes from all across time. The prize? A powerful artifact called the Holy Grail. With this magical legendary chalice, a person is able to have all of their wishes granted.
The protagonist for this tale is one Kiritsugu Emiya. A merciless mage killer who joined the tournament on behalf of his wife’s family, the Einzberns and in the future would be known as the foster father the character Shirou Emiya.
