Once a simply light novel turned into a highly successful film, “Your Name” has grown in leaps in popularity since its first release on August 26, 2016 in Japan.
Now, from the light novel in which the film was based off on and created by Arata Kanou, Cygames’ Cycomi manga app has confirmed that its spinoff novel titled “your name. Another Side:Earthbound” will be gaining a manga series and will be launched on the app on July 25.
The original light novel, “Your Name” was first released in Japan in June 18, 2016 by Kadokawa with an English version released on May 23, 2017. With 262 pages, the tale of the series tells of Mitsuha, a high school girl who lives in the fictional town of Itomori in Gifu Prefecture’s mountainous Hida region and Taki a high school boy who lives in Tokyo. The two holds truly different lives, but for an unknown reason the two wake up and discover that they had switched bodies.
The tale of the spinoff story on the other hand, rather than having a different look at the main characters, takes focus onto the supporting characters of the story and other side stories which were not seen in the original. In the beginning of the spinoff it tells a side story of when Taki was learning to navigate himself as he is switched with Mitsuha.
In this time, he learns things from Mitsuha’s place in town and how people seem to talk behind her back to even understanding how difficult it actually is to put on a bra. The second story tells of a constructor’s son and Mitsuha’s friend, Tessie. His story tells of his dream to change the town with Taki, who is still in Mitsuha’s body, helping him out.
The third story in the spinoff takes focus on Yotsuha, Mitsuha’s younger sister and how she sees Mitsuha as a reflection of their mother Futaba. As for the fourth and last noted story, it takes focus on the tale of Mitsuha’s and Yotsuha’s father Toshiki and his love story with their mother from the moment he fell in love with her to his perspective at the time of her passing.
The manga will illustrated by artist Junya Nakamura and currently Yen Press has licensed the novel for North America.
