It's Confirmed, Katsugeki! Tōken Ranbu is Coming this July 1,

It is official, the upcoming action series titled Katsugeki! Tōken Ranbu a.k.a “Action Picture! Touken Ranbu” has a confirmed date of release.

There is no cast yet confirmed for the upcoming series, but there is a confirmed list of staff working on the production. Acting as the director for the series is Toshiyui Shirai, the director of the episode director of the fantasy series “Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works” and a key animator of the supernatural series “Soul Eater.”

He is working on the production at ufotable, a company recognized for having done work on a variety of series including “Ōkami-san & Her Seven Companions” and “Fulllmetal Alchemist.” There will be three people that will be working on the sword fighting animation and they are Mitsuru Obunai, Masaru Kimura, and Masayuki Kunihiro.

Supervising the sword fight is Kougyoku Watanaben and taking on the historical research for the series is Tatsuya Yamamura, who has done the same work for both the “Ayakashi Ayashi: Ayashi Divine Comedy” OAV and the “Ghost Slayers Ayashi” series. For the characters, there are a total of eight designers to work on each character for the production.

As for the music of the series, Hideyuki Fukusawa, who composed for the “Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works” and “Intrigue in the Bakumatsu – Irohanihoheto” series is taking charge. For the opening and ending theme of the series, Souma Saitou will be taking the stage.

The broadcast is set to be on July 1 at 24:30 (effectively July 2 at 12:30 a.m.) and will be airing on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV followed by a 3:08 a.m. airing on MBS. Later in the month it wil be broadcasting on Okayama Broadcasting, Kōchi Sunsun TV, and TV Aichi.

The story for the series tells of an alternate history set in 1863 where the pro-shogunate and anti-shogunate factions of Japan are at odds with upcoming the end of the tumultuous samurai era. But everything changes as army of historical revisionists arrive from the future in order to change the past. In order to bring back the peace, two spirits of swords are brought to life by a figure called Saniwa and with the title of sword warriors they rush to battle alongside fellow warriors in order to save history.
