'Kannagi' Drama CD in 12 Manga Volume Reunites Anime Voice Cast

Along with the release of the special edition of the final 12th volume of the fantasy manga series “Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens” by Eri Takenashi it has been confirmed by the official Twitter for the Ichijinsha’s Monthly Comic Rex that the volume will be having a newly-recorded drama CD on a script by the manga author herself. Taking part of the CD and reprising their roles are the main cast of the 14-episode 2008 TV anime.

For those who may not be familiar with the series, “Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens” is a manga series that was first serialized in the January 2006 issue of Ichijinsha’s shōnen manga magazine Comic Rex. As stated, there are currently 12 volumes of the series and in 2008, an anime adaptation was made and ran for a total of 14 episodes until December of the same year.

The story of the series tells of a young male named Jin who one day decides to use the trunk of a sacred tree to carve a statue for his school project. But upon taking it outside however, it suddenly begins absorbing the surrounding earth and to his shock, transforms into a young lady. Apparently, she is a guardian deity who is none too happy that her tree has been cut down.

So, in order to remove the “impurities” in her anger, she decides to live with Jin. Thus begins the chaotic life of an unlucky young man.
The cast for both the series and the CD comprise of the following people:

Within the CD, there will be a revelation of details on the manga’s final chapter, which is to be published in the upcoming September 2017 issue of the magazine. It will on July 27, that the issue will be released, along with the 12th tankobon.

Another feature to be found in the CD is the a song inspired by a song sung by the character Nagi in the manga. It is entitled “Saigo no Love Letter” a.k.a. “The Last Love Letter” and is performed by her voice actress Haruka Tomatsu. The lyrics of this song was written by Takenashi and co-composed with Satoru Kousaki MONACA), who worked on the OP/ED theme songs, insert songs, and soundtrack music for the 2008 anime.
