May 24 has come and for the fans of the comedic series that is “Osomatsu-san”, it means that it is the birthday of the Matsuno sextuplets, Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Todomatsu. In order to commemorate the birth of the characters created by artist Fujo Akatsuki, a 45 second birthday video was made.
For those who may want to know what exactly this series is, here is some background. Osomatsu-san originally was a manga series titled “Osomatsu-kun” created by Fujo Akatsuki and had its first start in 1962 with a total of 34 volumes. It was in 2015 that the series gained an anime adaptation under the animation studio Pierrot.
There is difference between the anime and original manga however, and it’s not in the art. For the anime series, it takes years after the original manga and so, rather than the characters being children, the anime takes them on as adults for the series.
The characters of this series, the Matsuno siblings; Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Todomatsu, are sextuplets and the series is set 10 years after the original series, marking them as 20-something adults. But rather than having steady jobs and living the responsible adult life, the sextuplets spend their days lazing about in their homes or doing whatever they want as NEETs.
The video itself depicts a fast forward animation of the siblings’ cake being created and was animated by the same people who worked on the ending animation for the series. A thing to note is that the video is also a follow-up the music video of “SIX SAME FACES ~ Tonight Best !!!!!! ~ – Birthday REMIX -” which was released last year.
More than the animation of the birthday cake being created, there is also a background music tying the cheerful video. The BGM (background music) is TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND which produced the FACES ~ Tonight is the best !!!!!! ~" which turned “SIX SAME BIRTHDAY 2017 ~ Happy birthday !!!!!! ~” for the video.
In additional news, coming on June 30, there will be a release of the Blu – ray / DVD of “Osomatsu – san Kobanashi Atsume” which contains the special number that was aired on December 2016.
