‘Metal Gear Solid 2’ and ‘Ponyo’ Voice Actor John Cygan Passes Away

The video game and entertainment industry have lost another great person. John Cygan, an actor and voice actor for popular video games has passed away on the age of 63 after dealing with cancer. He is married to Cathy with two children Jack and Annie. He passed away on Saturday, May 13.

Cygan is popular for being the voice of Solidus Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. His other roles were Mandalor the Preserver in Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords, Canderous Ordo in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Melfice from Grandia II. Dash Rendar from Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, and Droguza from Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. He also did voice acting roles of animated movies like Twitch from Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3 as well as in the Studio Ghibli animated film Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.

Aside from his voice acting roles, Cygan also is also well-known for being an actor in some live action series like ABC’s The Commish as Lt. Paulie Pentangeli as well in The X-Files as Sheriff Spencer. He was also remembered for his various acting roles in NYPD Blue, Judging Amy, Frasier, Modern Family and The Shield.

Cygan belongs to a large family of thirteen children in which six of them are his half-siblings. He was born in New York City and attended school at West Babylon High School located in Long Island. Aside from his academics, he is also quite active in his church’s theatre troupe and had his first big break in his star performance in Aresenic and Old Lace as the insane brother. Not only that his acting talent is being praised, he was also a good photographer and a comedian.

Another talented man lost. May John Cygan’s legacy continue as we will never forget him in the roles that he played and come to life for us on both television and on the big screen. He will be missed.
