But there are anime that while not filled with the biggest of explosions or the most awe insiring of sites, has an interesting plot and interesting female characters taking the lead and not being the damsel in distress nor the rdinary girl turned extraordinary due to ‘special circumstances’, the following listed are such anime.
3. Fushigi no Umi no Nadia
This is a tale of saving the world from a villain who goes by the name of Gargoyle from his obsession of ruling the world through the restoration of the the former Atlantean empire. In his way however is a young girl named Nadia along with a young inventor, Jean Ratlique, and Captain Nemo of the submarine Nautilus.
Truly a tale of adventure adapted from the classic tale of “2000 Leagues Under the Sea” with it’s own original twist and a determined female to add to the mix as a protagonist.
2. Ie Naki Ko Remi
Set in a small French country town, a young girl named Rei discovers a world shattering truth upon the return of her father. He informs her that she is in fact not his real daughter and in turn she is almost sold to an evil slave trader. Yet she manages to make her escape with the help of a Vitalis, a strolling entertainer who discovers her talent for singing and has her join his troupe.
A story of a young girl brought into the performing world of a troupe and finding her way. This is an adventure tale that takes a turn in a young girl rising up in the world of performing while traveling along where the troupe may take her.
1. Ashita no Nadja
Here is a tale that is similar to the prior listed but brings in not only a mystery of looking for a mother with only a jewel as link but travelling the world, meeting different people and developing a romance along the way brings this anime at number one as a series that is remembered by many.
This is the story of Nadja, a bright and cheerful girl who had lived in a orphanage until her thirteenth birthday, a day where she finds that her mother might actually be alive. With this she sets out to search for her mother and along the way finds herself joining a circus troupe and becoming a performer travelling the world while also dealing with her feelings for a handsome noble and mysterious thief.
