Top 5 Unfortunate Males of Reverse Harems

Posted in: Anime News

Reverse harems, most often than not, this genre has become a subject of fanservice and debates on the imagery of the female characters. But then what about the male characters? True enough there may be some fans that may wish to be in the male character’s shoes, having the attention of all those beautiful women. But when one looks at the bigger picture of what the males have to go through, one cannot help but cringe.

While they may have the attentions of more than two females, they also have the pain of having to undergo through a guilt trip over who he wants to be with, the perception of them being perverts when they are not and most of all being manhandled by violent women who either hate men but like him or are in a jealous fit. You can’t help but feel bad for these listed gentlemen who have to go through all this struggle when in actuallity they are good guys that any girl would be happy to have as a friend.

5. Love Hina – Keitarō Urashima

Here we have a male protagonist that is not only knocked around by the females but is hated by around two of them as well why? Simply because he is a male and had accidentally seen one of them in the bath. Keitarō Urashima was simpy a young man who had inherited an inn from his grandmother and had gone to check it out and in turn ended up in a rather wild situation.

He is what you would call as the unfortunate character that has been stamped with the cliche of “percieved pervert” and thus he has earned the number 5 spot on this list

4. Rosario + Vampire – Tsukune Aono

Tsukune was a regular guy who was looking to be able to enter into a highschool and somehow he ends up enrolling into a school for monsters. What’s more upon entering into the grounds he crashes into a vampire and in turn becomes a blood packet for her. The more time he spends at the school the more females he seems to attract and to make matters worse he gets challenged by other monsters for spending time with the females.

So overall we have the only human boy in a school filled with monsters and has attracted the attentin of a number of females because he is “interesting”, sounds like a lot of harem anime with a twist of its own.

3. Ranma 1/2 – Ranma

Even before meeting the females he is to be paired with, Ranma didn’t have the easiest of lives. Not only does he have a gambling father who has offered him as a bargaining chip to get food but he has ended up in a variety of situations that would have made a regular person snap. Not only is he cursed to turn into a female whenever he is struck with cold water but he is dragged into an arranged marriage with a female he has never met before.

He clearly doesn’t want to go through with his father’s plans but is bound by his honor. He may not be the most tactful or intelligent of people but he is not a bad guy, he genuinely cares in his own way and has a good heart. Sadly however he seems to gain the blame for most things when it isn’t and in turn he is not only knocked around by his arranged fiancee’ but he is being chased by three other females and faces through challenges by male rivals. Overall he end up with the short end of the stick in life when he shouldn’t have to.

2. Monster Musume – Kimihito Kurusu

They say love hurts but in the case of Kimihito, this phrase takes a literal turn for him. He signs up for a simple program to welcome female monster creatures into his home yet ends up with a situation that lands him with more than five female monsters living in his home and all vying for his attention. Add to the factor that all of them are larger and stronger than him, everyday is a risk for him, from being strangled in affection to being tied up in webs, there is a struggle to go through each day and yet he greets them with a smile and continuos kindness.

Here we have a male character that is under the risk of being accidentally killed by his guests from their over affection or battle for his attention and yet he doesn’t get mad, doesn’t take it out of them or even get irritated with them, a most commendable if somewhat boring character.

1. Familiar of Zero – Hiraga Saito

At one time Hiraga Saito was a regular boy who went about his days in Tokyo like any other regualr male. Then he ends up being summoned to completely different world, binded to a noble witch who is anything but happy with his appearance and ends up for the wildest ride of his life.

By far Saito has ended up with the shorttest stick of the group. Not only is he whisked away from everything he knows, but he is practically made into a slave to a person who views him nothing more than a mongrel and goes as far as whip him when she believes she has ether wronged her or is acting like a pervert. Many have noted the wrongness of these two’s relationship and I am one of them. Saito may have the attention of a number of females but the situation that he is forced into far outweights the “pro” of the female attention.
