From Animation to Live, Jazz Anime Sakamichi no Apollon Gains Live Action Film

Enter into the jazz filled world of Sakamichi no Apollon once more, for from an anime of friendship and jazz music, the series will now be having a live action film. Officially confirmed in the Retailer Rakuten’s listing for the June issue of the Shogakukan’s Monthly Flowers magazine with a cover image announcement, there is currently no details given on the staff or cast to work on the production.

Created by Yuki Kodama, the series started of as a manga series which was first published in 2007 in Monthly Flowers and ran for a total of nine volumes until it ended in March 2012. In November 2012 though, a spin-off series titled “Sakamichi no Apollon: Bonus Track” was published by Shogakukan.

The story of the series which is set in the 1960’s, tells of a shy high school boy named Kaoru who is starting as a new student in a school located in a provincial town in Nagasaki Prefecture. Due to his family’s constant moving from town to town, Kaoru has developed a condition that causes him to escape to the roof to calm himself.

One day, things change for Kaoru, for as he escapes to the roof in his search for peace and solitude, he comes across the delinquent Sentarou. Though they didn’t meet at the best of terms, it was with Sentarou that Kaoru finds himself taken into the world of jazz. With his skill on the piano and Sentarou’s ability on the drums, the two learn to create beautiful music together.

A story of friendship and music, this series has garnered a number of music fans who have admired not only the tale of the two friend’s up and down in their love for jazz, but on the effort that was done on the music itself.
