Chion of the Cat Temple Manga Seeks Feline Character via Photo Contest

Here’s a chance for cat lovers to see their beloved companion as a manga character, all you have to you is make sure to have them as photogenic as possible.

In celebration of its fourth volume release, the Neko no O-tera no Chion-san (Chion of the Cat Temple) manga series will be making a choice of the two ‘most appealing’ cat to make their appearance in the series. First published on May 6, 2016, the series tells the story of a high school boy named Gion, an older girl named and a romance involving a countryside temple with cats. One of the main features of this series that makes it so unique is the realistic illustrations of cats.

Those who wish to enter into the competition can do so by filling out an online form or uploading a photo of their cat with both their and their cat’s name on Instagram or Twitter. Submission of entries for the competition will run from April 24 to May 15.

As stated, there will be two cats chosen as winners, and these appealing felines will each have their own prize. For one of them, they will be chosen to appear in the fourth volume of the series, which will be released on June 30.

The prize for the second cat chosen, is an appearance of themselves in manga form in the July 3 issue of the Big Comics Spirits magazine, a seinen magazine currently featuring a number of series including “Tomehane! Suzuri Kōkō Shodōbu” by Katsutoshi Kawai. In addition to this, the seinen magaine will also be publishing all of the photos of the cats entered into the competition.

But an appearance in a manga series is not the only prize to be won in the competition. Other prizes to be won in the competition are known as the “Illustration Prize,” “Comics Cover Prize,” and the “PETomorrow Prize.”
