April 1, to the majority, this day is known as “April Fools” day, a day of laughter and practical jokes to play on one another. But for the fans of the classic shoujo known as “Cardcaptor Sakura” this is a day of celebration birthday of the protagonist herself, Sakura Kinomoto. It has been around 17 years now since the show has ended and now the shoujo series returns with a brand new television series based on the Clear Card Chapter of the manga, set to premiere in January 2018.

In celebration of Sakura’s birthday, a 2017 Birthday Party was held in Tokyo featuring a reunion of the voice actresses Sakura Tange, Junko Iwao, Aya Hisakawa, Motoko Kumai and Megumi Ogata along with mascots of Cerberus/Keroberus a.k.a Kero and Spinal Sun were seen taking part of the celebration.
What’s more, in addition to the birthday celebration, it has been reported that with the release of the second volume of the Cardcard Sakura follow-up CLAMP manga Clear Card Chapter, there will be preview of the OAD released alongside the publishing of the third volume which is to be on September 13.

The story of the chapter which the upcoming anime is based on, goes back to the junior-high years of the magical girl and tells of mysterious events happening in her hometown.

The original Cardcaptor Sakura series tells the story of an ordinary girl named Sakura Kinomoto whose life changed forever when she found a mysterious book filled with magical ‘Clow Cards’. As she was responsible for scattering all the cards around her town of Tomoeda, it is her mission as the Cardcaptor to seal them before they cause any trouble. Aside from this, the series is also known for the cute relationship of Sakura and Syaoran.
