Only a month to go until the release of the sci-fi film “Ancien and the Magic Tablet" a.k.a “Hirune Hime: Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari” it has been announced on Thursday on the film’s official site that a short anime spin-off would be in production. Entitled “Ancien to Mahō no Tablet Mō Hitotsu no Hirune Hime” a.k.a “Ancien and the Magic Tablet Another Napping Princess.” Directed by the director of the anime film Kenji Kamiyama and storyboarded by artist Takashi Sano, the short spin-off is set to be released in early March on Hulu Japan.
For the rest of the staff, they are comprised of firstly, composer Yoko Kimumura, known for his work in the series “Best Student Council” and “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.” Working as the scriptwriter for the short is the the script worker behind the film “Cyborg 006 Call of Justice” Harumi Doki.
As for the actors of the short, Mitsuki Takahata, who has previously voiced the character Karl of anime series “Karl to Fushigi na Tou” is cast to play as the voice of protagonists Kokone Morikawa and Ancien. Acting as the voice behind Kokone’s father Momotarou and a character of the short named Peach is Yosuke Euguchi, who, prior to this film did work as a live-action actor.
Reprising their role as the character Joy is Rie Kugimiya, recognized as the voice behind the popular character Happy of “Fairy Tail” and Alphonse Eric of “Fullmetal Alchemist.” Palying as the character Bewan in the short film and confirmed to play as the character Watanabe in the anime film is the man who played as Oku-chan in the Ghiblies special and Yattaran in the “Harlock: Space Pirates” film, Arata Furuta.
Set to play as the character Isshin is Hideki Takahashi, known for his work as an animator and the acted as the voice of Zekrom in both Pokemon Black and White films. Last and not least, playing as the Heartland King is voice actor Isshin Shijima.
The film itself is an expansion on a mysterious fairy tale the Kokone’s father tells her when she was a child. The main protagonist for this short film is a girl named Ancien, who has made a recurring appearance in Kokone’s dream in the film.
