An upcoming skating-themed event held in the Nakano Sun Plaza located in Nakano, Tokyo holds figures of the popular ice skating anime series “Yuri!!! On Ice” as guests to appear. Set to occur on March 3 with tickets at 4,500 yen (US$40) with a sale that occurred on Wednesday, the event is entitled as “Yuri!!! on Ice Figure Skate o 100-Bai Tanoshimu Shūchū Kōgi.” Due to a high demand on those who wished to attend the event however, 48 theatres throughout Japan will also be livestreaming the event.
The main feature of the event is to teach fans on the workings of figure skating through the use of footage from the anime series. The one to teach them is figure-skating choreographer in reality and for the anime, Kenji Miyamoto along with skater Akiko Suzuki, someone whom Miyamoto choreographed a program for at one point.
Prior to becoming a choreographer, Miyamoto was a well off ice dancer who became a two-time national champion with his partner Rie Arikawa. Following Arikawa’s retirement, Miyamoto paired with Nakako Tsuzuki and the two went to compete from 2003-2006 and during that time became three-time Japanese national silver medallists before Miyamoto retired from the competitive scene.
For the event itself, Miyamoto shall be joined with the staff and voice actors of the show as another featured part of the event. In the first session, the event shall be hosting Mitsurou Kubo and voice actors Toshiyuki Toyonaga who played protagonist Yūri Katsuki, Yūtarō Honjō the voice behind Chinese skater Guang-Hong Ji, and Shun’ichi Toki who voiced the skater for America, Leo de la Iglesia.
Appearing for the second session of the event is once again Kubo and Toyonaga along with Kouki Uchiyama who played as the temperamental Russian skater Yuri Plisetsky.
Now not only can fans learn the skating mechanics of the characters in the show, they can also enjoy the people behind these characters as well.
