Insight: The challenge for Kishimoto in making ‘Boruto’

Posted in: Anime News

For fans who’ve been with Uzumaki Naruto from beginning until the end, we’ve witnessed how Masashi Kishimoto transformed an unwanted, loser kid to a great Hokage that everyone acknowledges right now.

When the final chapter of Naruto was released, most of us had this feeling of having a “hole” in our hearts—okay maybe that’s a little bit dramatic but the idea of ‘no more Naruto’ sounds lonely, right? And of course seeing Naruto and the rest of the gang with their kids makes us feel like the story goes on but us ‘oldies’ just won’t witness it.

So when Boruto: Naruto the Movie was confirmed, we got excited. And while watching it we got a lot of “reminiscing” moments that made us feel “old.” [Who nearly shed tears during the credits?]

And then months later, Kishimoto made a big announcement for us fans that would love to see the Naruto series continue.

Kampai!

Kishimoto just announced that Boruto will be getting an anime series during the Jump Festa last December! In an interview during the event, Kishimoto also reportedly disclosed that he plans to make Boruto “even better than Naruto.”

The television anime, entitled Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, is set to premiere in April 2017 and will feature an original story.

But wait. WAIT.

What do you think the story of Boruto will be about? I think that’s what most fans asked in the corner of their minds.

In a sense, Naruto has almost accomplished everything. He became the Hokage. He managed to unite the shinobi world during the fourth great war. He defeated the boss, the big boss, and the final boss [spoilers, spoilers, and more spoilers]. He’s a real OP character now. At the same time, almost everyone and everything’s past is already revealed in Naruto—most are fillers though. Even the beginning of ninjas and the ninja world is revealed.

So what else is in store for us for Boruto anime? What would Kishimito do to make Boruto greater than Naruto? Or simply, what would the story of Boruto be about?

This is just a series of what ifs, but maybe Kishimoto will…

• Kill Kakashi? Oh no please do not. But then again, remember how we cried during the deaths of Sarutobi, Jiraiya, and Minato? And Sasuke also… teaches Boruto. Okay, forget this. Nobody wants anybody to die.
• Reveal another pure blood Uchiha survivor? That sounds exciting.
• Sarada gets a little a brother? Well…
• Also, what about our other not-really officially sunken ships? Suigetsu x Karin? Tenten x Lee? What else? Kiba x… maybe a new character?
• We hope Kishimoto will give us more arcs like the Land of the Waves and Chuunin exam arcs, instead of the usually-disliked fillers in the Shippuden. “Yes please” to more cool ninja missions.

In the end, just trying to think about it is nerve-wracking.

But then again, it’s Kishimoto. It’s Kishimoto, dear people. It’s the same Kishimito who worked one and a half decade with the Naruto’s story that [trolled us] we’ve been following through for years.

So let’s wait, and definitely hope to see how Kishimoto will make us love Boruto too. What do you think will occur in Boruto anime? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
