If you’ve been a follower of Pokemon since your childhood days, then pretty much you’ve heard of Magikarp. This red carp Pokemon is known for its signature move Splash (a water-type move that pretty much doesn’t do anything). Don’t belittle this weak-looking Pokemon for once it evolves, it turns into a vicious Gyrados!
Aside from the various Pokemon merchandise that sprouted over the years, the hype has also made its way to Japanese snacks. Believe it or not, Magikarp-inspired Taiyaki Cakes debuted in Japan on Saturday. The price? Around $2USD!
Each Magikarp Taiyaki is filled with sweet red bean paste (anko). Every time you buy one, each comes with a bag that contains lyrics of the song “I Love Koiking”, the official Magikarp song, at the back.
This isn’t the first time that anime and/or video game characters received the “chara-yaki” treatment. Vocaloid characters like Hatsune Miku and other characters like Doraemon and Pikachu have also been created in Taiyaki cakes which is a popular food during festivals in Japan.
