In December 2014, video game and publisher company “Sekai Project” released a visual novel entitled “Nekopara” on PC via Steam and later on released two more volumes in the following years. On December 9 this year it has been announced on the “Nekopara” twitter that an OVA (Original Video Animation) adaptation would be made along with a kickstarter campaign to occur on December 29.
For those who are unfamiliar with the work the visual novel developed by “Neko Works” and based on illustrator “Sayori’s” works is described as a story that brings the player into what is known as “cat paradise”. Kashou Minazuki is the protagonist of this story and after moving out from his family of Japanese confection makers opens his own shop “La Soleil” in order to work as a patisserie.
However, upon heading out to his new life he finds two catgirls a.k.a “neko” that his family have raised have hidden amongst his things. The two catgirls Chocola and Vanilla, beg and plead to stay with Kashou though try as he might to return them and in the end he relents and the three open “La Soleil” together. To add to this already unique story is the fact that both Chocola and Vanilla are deeply in love with their “master” and try their best and fail at the same time to capture his heart, creating a “heartfelt comedy” of a story.
Now as scheduled, on Thursday came “Sekai Project’s” kickstarter campaign was launched and in a span of only an hour they had met their initial goal of US$100,000 (¥11,683,980 Japanese Yen )which will go towards 20 minute OVA. However, “Sekai Project” has revealed that for every US$100,000 given there will be there will be an extension for the OVA of 10 minutes with the maximum US$500,000 for 60 minutes. Currently it has been reported that the project has reached to over US$265,780 and that the campaign will be ending on February 11.
