'Kantai Collection' PS Vita Game to End Sales After January 2017

Posted in: Anime News

Kantai Collection is one of Japan’s popular web browser and mobile games created by Kadokawa Games. In a recent announcement released by the company on Thursday, they will cease the shipping of the franchise’s PS Vita Game KanColle Kai effective at the end of January 2017. Aside from this, digital downloads of the game will be closed at the end of January as well. The game will still remain available until they go out of stock.

To those who have digitally purchased the game, you can still redownload and play it even after the sales close.

Within the first three weeks, KanColle Kai has sold more than 200,000 copies in Japan. It was delayed multiple times (the game was originally scheduled to be released in 2014) until it was finally released in February 18, 2016.

Kantai Collection started as a free-to-play browser game in DMM.com in April 2013 which allows players to collect and fight along with ship girls that are inspired by Japanese World War II ships. The game already expanded not only exclusive to Japanese Navy ships, but also Italy’s Regia Marina and German Kriegsmarine. The game also has its own anime adaptation with its first episode aired in January 2015.
