Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi – The World’s Greatest First Love TV anime series is based on the manga of the same title written and illustrated by Shungiku Nakamura, who is also known for her another hit BL manga Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance.
The anime was produced by Studio Deen and was directed by Chiaki Kon. Its first and second seasons premiered on April 2011 and October 2011 respectively, with Crunchyroll streaming it at the same time of its airing in Japan.
Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi – The World’s Greatest First Love tells the story of Ritsu Onodera, a literary editor, who resigned from his father’s publishing company and applied at Marukawa Publishing to move away from coworkers’ jealousy and from his father’s shadow. But, much less to his expectations, the new company placed Onodera under its shoujo manga department, Emerald, instead of the literary department he preferred, prompting him to reconsider resignation. At the same time, Ritsu finds Masamune Takano, his new boss, annoying. However, being called “useless” by Takano hurts Onodera’s pride, forcing him to stay with his job and prove Takano that he is not.
Later, Onodera learned something about Takano, which is strongly related with Onodera’s love life way back when he was still in highschool.
