Posted in: Anime News

As many have predicted, Makoto Shinkai’s successful movie Kimi no Na wa has now reached over 20 Billion Yen in box office ticket sales. That’s a total of 15,391,716 tickets sold as of yesterday! The movie has been shown for a total of 102 days.

With that said, the movie has surpassed Studio Ghibli‘s Howl’s Moving Castle which earned around 19.6 billion yen on its theater release. To date, the movie is now ranked at number 5 for the highest-grossing film (all time) in Japan and number 2 as the highest-grossing anime film in Japan.

As the hype continues, Kimi no Na wa is now making its way to IMAX theaters next year. Will this movie be able to surpass Spirited Away’s earnings (30.8 billion) in the future?
