The TeniPuri Festa 2016 yielded the news regarding a new anime movie for Takeshi Konomi’s Prince of Tennis. The said movie will be focusing on the three-month gap between Prince of Tennis and New Prince of Tennis.

The Prince of Tennis franchise was initially a Shonen Jump manga that started in 1999 and ended in 2008. In 2001, an anime adaptation consisting of 178 episodes and an associated movie were produced. From 2006 to 2008, three OVAs were also released.

Below are several photos from the goods calendar.

Prince of Tennis is about the young tennis prodigy Ryouma Echizen’s story of how he joins the Seishin Gakuen Junior High School’s sports team and his quest to be one of Japan’s best tennis players without the help of his father’s elite status. Ryouma works with his teammates until they win in the National Tournament. New Prince of Tennis is a continuation of the Prince of Tennis in which Ryouma’s team gets invited to the U-17 Selection training camp, which is known to produce many professional tennis players. Their main goal here is to prove their worth as one of the best tennis players of their generation.

Sports anime have been getting more and more popular lately, with shows about swimming and basketball becoming incredibly popular lately, with some conventions having hundreds of cosplayers from these shows.
