# “Higurashi When They Cry” Smartphone Game to be Released on September 3

<p class="MsoNormal">The official Twitter account of the <em>Higurashi: When They Cry </em>franchise announced this Monday that the official smartphone game for the series will be released in Japan this Thursday, September 3. The game will launch for Android and iOS devices. There is no news yet of an international release.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The smartphone game is a free-to-play RPG with in-game purchases. It is slated for release this summer 2020 and will feature a completely new story. The original creator of the story, Ryukishi07, is credited to be cooperating with the game.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Previous announcements have revealed that <em>Higurashi</em> will be getting a new anime project that will be animated by Passione (<em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">High School DxD Hero, Citrus</em>), with character designs to be done by Akio Watanabe (<em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Monogatari </em>series, <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">The World God Only Knows</em>). The new anime project will be produced by Infinite and is set for an October 1 2020 premiere.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Higurashi: When They Cry </span></em><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">is a murder mystery <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">doujin</em> visual novel series developed by 07<sup>th</sup> Expansion and written by Ryukishi07. The first game in the series was released in 2002, with the eighth and final released in 2006. On the same year it was adapted into a 26-episode anime series by Studio Deen, the following year, 24 episodes were released under the title <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai </em>(<em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">When They Cry II: Solutions</em>). </span></p>
