Third and Final Season Confirmed for “Fruits Basket”, Set for 2021 Release

2021 is shaping up to be a pretty good year thanks to announcements of new anime to look forward to—and to make the next year appear even better, Fruits Basket is adding itself to the bunch! The last episode of Fruits Basket season 2, which aired just yesterday, announced that the beloved series will be getting a third season entitled Fruits Basket The Final. The finale season is set for a 2021 release, with no definite release month as of this writing.

Also, to soothe everyone’s feels for the end of season 2, the series’ official website announced that the gorgeous ending illustrations for the past episodes have been collected in their site! Fruits Basket season 2 premiered on April this year, with Funimation streaming the series worldwide as it aired in Japan. The second season featured a returning cast.

The first season of Fruits Basket 2019 aired in Japan on April 5, 2019. Funimation has gained the exclusive rights to stream the series and release it on home video.

The Furuba reboot is produced by TMS Entertainment under the direction of Yoshihide Ibata. The script is penned by Taku Kishimoto, and character designs are done by Masaru Shindo. Series creator Natsuki Takaya is executive supervisor.

Serialized from 1998 to 2006 in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine, Fruits Basket follows the story of sweet orphan girl Tohru Honda who ends up living with the members of the Soma clan. She is sworn to secrecy when she finds out that the Somas are cursed to turn into zodiac animals when they are hugged by someone of the opposite sex. The first anime adaptation of the series was produced by Studio Deen and aired in 2001.
